The University of Madras – Institute of Distance Education, is one of the largest Universities in the state of Tamil Nadu, offering courses under both Distance Education and Open University modes. The Institute of Distance Education (IDE), University of Madras was started in the year 1981.

 

The Institute of Distance Education conducts courses by providing printed learning materials,  wide network of study centers in India and abroad, personal contact programs (PCP), experienced teachers from various colleges conduct PCP classes, and study material in the self-learning format (SLM).

 

The Institute has study centers located in several states in India and in seven other countries abroad, namely, Bahrain, Kuwait, Srilanka, Singapore, Nepal, and United Arab Emirates. It provides courses at undergraduate and post graduate levels in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams. The medium of instructions for the courses are either Tamil or English or both.
