Vidyasagar University-Directorate of Distance Education, Midnapore was established in 1981. It was named after Pandit Iswar Chandra Bandyopadhyay known as Vidyasagar It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The total area of University Campuses is of 182.75 acres. The University offers undergraduate and post graduate courses in the fields of Arts and Science.

The University has study centers across Wes Bengal. It provides hostel facilities like separate hostels for girls and boys, medical advice and help to the students, teachers, administrative and non teaching staff of the University, Sports activities, and a University Scientific Instrumentation Centre (USIC) to provide instrumental facilities. It also has an automated library.
Vidyasagar University DDEÂ provides study materials sent to the students by post, courier, or by hand at the time of admissions or during PCP. Minimum of two modules are supplied for each practical papers. Personal Contact Programs are organized to provide the students an opportunity to interact with leading experts in the subject who give counseling and advice rather than classroom lectures.
Each student will be excepted to attend 60% of the PCP. Practical classes will be held in the departmental laboratory at the University campus, 90 hours class room teaching will be held for each batch of students and each student is required to attend normally minimum 75% practical classes.

Vidyasagar University Distance Education Admission
There is no age bar in admission in Distance Learning Courses, i.e., admission is open to any person of any age within eligible criteria. There is no cut-off year for any course in admission. Candidates seeking admission to any course offered by the Directorate need not submit transfer certificate / migration certificate. All admissions are provisional subject to verification of the required documents.
