NIT PatnaThe history of National Institute of Technology, Patna dates back to 1886.It was in this year that the institute took birth as a Survey Training School.In year 1900, the school was elevated to Bihar School of Engineering, Patna.The school was entrusted with the responsibility of producing high quality engineering graduates in the state.After 24 years, the government again renamed the school as Bihar College of Engineering, Patna.Further, the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) of Government of India renamed this institute as National Institute of Technology, Patna (NIT, Patna) on January 28, 2004. Since its inception, the institute has churned out highly skilled engineering and technology graduates.Today, the institute is acknowledged a centre of excellence for imparting training, research and development in the areas of basic and applied sciences.
At present, the NIT Patna is affiliated to Patna University.The institute would soon be assigned the ‘Deemed University’ status by the government.The ‘Deemed University’ status would give adequate powers to the institute to frame its own policies as regards to conduct of study programmes, examinations and award of degrees.
The Institute has also been declared as a Centre of Excellence and imparts high level education training , research and development in science, engineering technology and humanities. It conducts programs at the UG (B.Tech), PG (M.Tech) & Ph .D levels through its experienced faculty and well equipped laboratories . At present the Institute has seven disciplines viz. Architecture, Civil Engineering, Compute Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering. Other departments of Physics, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Science are equally strong. Placement records of NIT Patna have witnessed unprecedented growth and is touching new heights. The Institute has three boys’ hostels and one girls’ hostel. The campus has Wi-Fi connectivity all over and Internet connectivity to every department and to the hostels.The Institute maintains a central Library which has over 50,000 books and about 1,100 internationally acclaimed e-journals.
