UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) 2017

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has been conducting the National Eligibility Test (NET) for recruitment and appointments to the post of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The last NET conducted by the UGC was in June, 2014. Traditionally, the UGC-NET is conducted twice a year, in June and in December.

UGC decided in July, 2014 that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting the National Eligibility Test (NET) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC.) This year, the CBSE has announced that there won’t be any NET conducted in June/ July 2017. Instead for 2017, there will only be one UGC-NET exam which will be held on 5 November, 2017. A detailed notification will be released on 24 July, 2017.

The NET is a National level examination to determine eligibility for lectureship (as Assistant professor) and for award of Joint Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian Nationals as a standard test for entrants in the teaching profession and research at the university level.

The CBSE will conduct NET in 79 subjects at 89 centres (NET coordinating institutes) across the country.
