CUET UG 2023: Singh said that all DU institutions will solely accept applications via the CUET, with no in-person interviews.

Delhi University and St. Stephen’s College were at odds over the university’s new admissions policy that was based on CUET score last year.

Yogesh Singh, vice chancellor of Delhi University, stated that the issue has been settled and that the college would only hold admissions through the Common University Admission Exam going forward. Singh said that there would be no interviews and that all admissions to DU colleges would be handled only through the CUET.

Last year, the university had given the esteemed college permission to interview prospective undergraduate students from the minority group. The admissions procedure at St. Stephen’s College, which uses interviews to determine admittance for places designated for Christian candidates, didn’t start until after the Supreme Court’s decision.

According to Singh, who was speaking about the coming session, the university will again administer the Common University Entrance Exam (CUET) for admissions this year, just like it did last year, but the procedure will go much more smoothly because the university is well-prepared.

“We ran into some problems last year because it was the first time. CUET should be conducted twice a year, if possible. Consideration should be given to the finest performance, and I am hopeful that UGC will consider this says Singh.

The vice-chancellor claims that despite several efforts to fill all 70,000 seats at the institution, about 5,000 seats remained unfilled in 2017.

“Earlier as well, several seats were empty. In several colleges, there were unfilled seats in particular categories. Seats are unfilled at minority colleges as well, he noted.

When asked about partnerships with foreign institutions, Delhi University said that it is “open to cooperate” with foreign universities and institutions, adding that the development of new courses is a high priority.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, said on Wednesday at an event in Lamta in the Balaghat district that students from government schools in the state will receive a quota in medical colleges.

“The National Eligibility Comprehension Entrance Test, or NEET, is used to determine admission to medical institutions. Without regard to caste, we would grant reservations in medical courses to students from government schools, Chouhan declared.

Chouhan claimed the new quota will ensure that a specific amount of students from government schools get into medical institutions and queried the audience as to whether or not kids from poor families and the kids of farmers should become doctors.

Children attending public schools must be protected, he said, or else they would lag behind those attending private schools.

The state government would cover medical college tuition for students from low-income households, the chief minister added in another statement.

He mentioned the establishment of CM Rising Schools as evidence that the state government has been strengthening public schools. A medical college would be established in Balaghat, he added.

IIT Bombay analysis: BTech students from these fields are the highest paid.

The report highlights the trend of non-core jobs paying well; computer science significantly increases the category of students landing core positions.

A comparative cluster study of income packages of high-performing students in specific departments at the IIT Bombay reveals that engineering students mostly from the Computer Science, Mechanical, and Electrical departments gain high-paying employment.

A placement is typically given as compensation for strong academic achievement, according to a study that examines placement data from the five years between 2014 and 2018. The Cumulative Performance Index (CPI), a weighted average of performance throughout all programme courses, is used to determine placements. Nevertheless, a high CPI does not guarantee a job with a high income. According to the study, things including the engineering branch and sector one works in determine one’s pay.

Namit Agrawal, Sailakshmi Sreenath, Shishir K. Jha, and Anurag Mehra from the Institute for Policy Studies at IIT Bombay carried out the study. It notes that students with a high CPI are able to apply to the majority of businesses, and as a result, the industry in which they receive placement offers is likely to reflect their preference.

Explaining the cluster analysis of CPI and salaries across core and non-core jobs, Mehra said, “When placements of high CPI (8-10) students from select branches were studied, it was observed that in all departments, apart from Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, high-paying jobs were few even for high CPI scorers. This is in addition to the general observation that there is a positive correlation between CPI and salary as high CPI students are eligible to apply for most companies.”

The pattern of non-core jobs having high salaries is reflected in the study too. “We see that non-core recruiters reward higher CPI than core recruiters, but this effect is likely because of the high salaries that non-core jobs offer to CSE students,” the study says.
