The cut-off scores for Class 11 admissions in Chandigarh government schools have decreased.

Class 11

The cut-off scores for Class 11 admissions in Chandigarh government schools have decreased.

The UT education department has released the first allotment list for Class 11 admissions in government schools. The highest cut-off was 80.6%, as compared to the 93.8% last year.

Class 11

The list is for students who passed Class 10 from government schools in the Union territory. Out of the 13,875 seats in the fray, 85% are reserved for these students.

The highest cut-off was for students seeking admission in medical stream at Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 16. Last year, the highest cut-off in science stream was for GMSSS, Modern Housing Complex (MHC), Manimajra. This time, it stands at 58% for medical and 57.2% for non-medical at the school.

GMSSS-16 also saw the highest cut-off for humanities stream, at 62%, a significant drop from 84.6% at the same school last year. In commerce, the highest cut-off is 63.4% at GMSSS-8, down from 86.2% at GMSSS, MHC, last year.

Director school education Harsuhinderpal Singh Brar said, “With the 85% quota, we want to give admissions to all the students who passed Class 10 from government schools. A separate allotment list for general category will be released on Wednesday.”

As many as 10,076 students have applied for the 11,794 seats available under this quota. However, it remains to be seen whether they will be allotted schools as per the three preferences submitted by them or they will have to sit for the second round of counselling. Any of the 11,794 seats left vacant after these admissions will be converted to general seats.

Contrastingly, 8,692 students are in the fray for the remaining 2,081 seats. This includes students from private schools of the city or from those from other states.

Because of the delay in declaring Class 10 results by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), the department had to extend the last date of application twice.

As per Brar, students from NIOS will be allowed to apply for the second and third counsellings, so that they get a fair chance.

The session for Class 11 will start on July 3.

Admissions will be subject to the decision of a writ petition currently sub-judice before the Punjab and Haryana high court. The court has sought a response from the UT administration by July 3.

The court acted on a plea from a student from a private school in the city. She has challenged the 85% reservation.

The education department maintained that admissions will continue as per schedule as the new policy is clear and fair.

In short, the cut-offs for Class 11 admissions in Chandigarh government schools have dropped significantly this year. This is due to the 85% quota for students who passed Class 10 from government schools. The session for Class 11 will start on July 3, but the admissions are subject to the decision of the Punjab and Haryana high court.

‘One Nation, One Data’ Portal to Revolutionize Higher Education in 2023-24

'One Nation, One Data' Portal to Revolutionize Higher Education in 2023-24

The implementation of the ‘One Nation, One Data’ portal, a centralized platform for data sharing among higher education institutions in the country, is set to commence in the upcoming academic session of 2023-24.

Education

The implementation of the ‘One Nation, One Data’ portal, a centralized platform for data sharing among higher education institutions in the country, is set to commence in the upcoming academic session of 2023-24. According to reliable sources, the groundwork for this transformative initiative has already begun. This portal represents a significant reform aimed at strengthening the assessment and accreditation system of colleges, universities, and other higher education institutes by establishing a single source of data collection and sharing across various regulatory bodies.

An official familiar with the development stated, “The groundwork for data compilation and correction through the portal has already commenced. Considering the vast amount of data available, a major challenge lies in collating existing data provided by different institutions to various agencies. This data is currently being cross-checked with the respective colleges and universities to ensure consistency, authenticity, and eliminate duplication.”

The ‘One Nation, One Data’ (ONOD) portal will serve as a unified online platform where higher education institutions can upload essential data, such as student numbers, faculty details, infrastructure information, research projects, and placement records. This data is required by regulatory bodies for periodic assessments, rankings, and grading. The portal will simplify the data management process, addressing the issue faced by institutions when furnishing information on multiple platforms multiple times throughout the year. Furthermore, institutions will no longer be required to submit the same data repeatedly, as it can be shared through an Application Programming Interface (API). Any necessary updates or additions can be made directly on the portal itself, as highlighted by the official.

The data collected through the ONOD portal can be utilized by different agencies for various purposes. For instance, regulatory bodies like the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) can employ it to grant approvals to colleges and institutes, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) can utilize it for rankings, and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) can leverage it for grading purposes. This endeavor is being undertaken by a committee led by Prof. Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairperson of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), and the National Educational Technology Forum (NETF), established by the Ministry of Education (MoE).

“We are also working on rationalizing the data requirements of regulatory bodies for approvals, rankings, and assessments, while eliminating any unnecessary information. The objective is to reduce the data submission process to only what is truly essential. The committee has invited members from these regulatory bodies, who utilize the data, for consultations on this matter,” explained the official.

The ‘One Nation, One Data’ portal is a pivotal reform recommended in the draft report titled ‘Transformative Reforms for Strengthening Periodic Assessment and Accreditation of all HEIs of India.’ This report was formulated by the Overarching Committee, established in November of the previous year under the chairmanship of K. Radhakrishnan, the head of the standing committee of the IIT Council. The report was made available for public feedback until June 22, after which the finalized version is expected to be released. The existing grading system for higher education institutes, conducted by the NAAC, encountered allegations of irregularities in March of this year.

Officials emphasized that one of the primary reasons for gaps in the grading system was the inconsistency and duplication of data arising from multiple agencies requesting similar data from institutions at various points throughout the year. The committee responsible for data integration will implement the changes recommended in the final report. “The finalized report is yet to be released, following which the actual work will commence. Currently, we are laying the groundwork,” stated a second official, who preferred to remain anonymous.

Delhi University Admission 2023: Applicants Eligible to Apply Even if They Didn’t Choose Delhi University in CUET UG Registration

DU Admission 2023: Applicants Eligible to Apply Even if They Didn't Choose Delhi University in CUET UG Registration

For those aspiring to join Delhi University, there is good news. Candidates who didn’t select Delhi University as a preference during their registration for CUET UG 2023 can still apply for admission to the university through the CSAS portal.

DU admission 2023
Write Image Caption here...........

The University of Delhi has initiated registrations for undergraduate admission for the academic year 2023-24 using the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS 2023) portal. This invitation is extended to candidates who appeared for the CUET UG 2023 examinations. Even if these aspirants did not select Delhi University as a preference during their CUET UG 2023 registration, they have the opportunity to apply for admission through the CSAS portal.

Haneet Gandhi, the Dean of Admission at Delhi University, stated that applicants who chose the ‘unreserved’ category during the CUET registration could also apply under the reserved category at the CSAS portal “if their certificate is ready.” On June 14, Delhi University launched the CSAS UG 2023 portal and urged students who desire admission to the university to submit their applications through the portal.

During a webinar, the admission branch team provided detailed guidance on the registration process, admission procedures, and form filling. They also addressed various questions from the aspirants.

One common question was whether students could apply to Delhi University if they hadn’t selected it while indicating their preferences. In the previous year, only those students who selected Delhi University as one of their preferences were permitted to apply through the CSAS portal.

Gandhi clarified, “If a candidate did not select Delhi University as a preference during CUET-UG registration, they can still apply for admission through the university’s CSAS portal. Similarly, if a student selected desired programs, they can also apply for those programs during phase II of the CUET.”

Another query concerned the change of categories. Gandhi responded, “Ideally, one should not do that, but if there is an issue with your certificate and it is now ready, you can opt for the reserved category. Except for PWD students, aspirants can change their categories while filling out the CSAS portal. However, once they have applied through the CSAS portal, they cannot change their categories.”

The admission process for nearly 71,000 seats across 78 undergraduate programs for the academic year 2023-24 is being conducted through the CSAS portal.

When asked if students could update their mobile number and email ID used during the CUET application, Gandhi explained that students can provide alternate numbers, but Delhi University considers the data from CUET as the only authentic source. Therefore, all information is sent to the number provided during CUET registration.

DU UG Admission Fee

Similar to the previous year, admission is based on the merit score in CUET. The registration fees are Rs. 250 for UR, OBC-NCL, and EWS candidates, while it is Rs. 100 for SC/ST and PwBD candidates.

DU UG Admission: Courses

The university offers 78 undergraduate programs and 198 combinations for the BA program through its 68 colleges. The University of Delhi provides approximately 1,550 unique programs and other combinations across colleges. The most sought-after postgraduate course is MA (Political Science).

The CSAS (UG) registration process is divided into two phases. The first phase, which began on Wednesday, involves registering and providing personal details and academic scores obtained in Class 12.

DU UG Admission 2023 Phase 2 Date

The second phase of the CSAS (UG) process will begin after the CUET (UG) results are declared in the second week of July. To participate in the second phase, candidates need to log in to their CSAS dashboard and complete the preference filling.

The University of Delhi has identified 26 Games/Sports under its Sports Supernumerary Quota and 14 categories (including NSS and NCC) under the Extra Curricular Activities supernumerary quota.

It has been decided that 5 percent of the total sanctioned strength of each college will be allocated for the ECA and Sports supernumerary quota. Aspirants also inquired whether a student who has applied for admission through the Sports or ECA quota would be considered for an ordinary seat.

Amit Pundir, Joint Dean of Admission, informed that such students would first be considered for the ordinary seats. “You will be considered in the first round of allocation and allotted a seat. After the ECA and sports trials, a new score will be calculated, and based on that, you will be allotted new seats. You will have the choice of selecting which seat you want to go for,” Pundir explained.

NEET UG 2023 Results: Explaining the Occurrence of Joint Toppers

NEET UG 2023 Results Explaining the Occurrence of Joint Toppers

NEET UG 2023 Results: Explaining the Occurrence of Joint Toppers

In a repeat of last year, the NEET UG 2023 results have once again produced joint toppers. The National Testing Agency (NTA) was questioned regarding this phenomenon, and their response shed light on the reasons behind it.

NEET UG 2023 Results Explaining the Occurrence of Joint Toppers

This year, two candidates, Prabhanjan J from Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, and Bora Varun Chakravarthi from Andhra Pradesh, have secured an identical top score in the NEET-UG exam. It is worth noting that last year, despite four candidates achieving the same percentile score of 99.9997733, they were each assigned unique ranks. So, what has caused the NTA to declare joint toppers this time around?

The answer lies in the tie-breaking rule implemented by the NTA. This year, the agency made adjustments to the formula used in the previous year. In 2022, the NTA used nine factors to assign unique ranks to candidates with equal marks or percentile scores. However, for this year’s results, two factors were excluded from the formula:

  1. Candidates’ higher marks/percentiles in Biology (Botany and Zoology)
  2. The candidate with the highest mark/percentile in Chemistry
  3. The candidate with the highest marks/percentile score in Physics
  4. Candidates with fewer incorrect answers than correct answers in all subjects
  5. A candidate with the lowest proportion of incorrect responses to correct responses in Biology (Botany and Zoology)
  6. Candidate with the lowest ratio of incorrect answers to correct answers in Chemistry
  7. The candidate with a lower percentage of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics
  8. Candidate older in age
  9. NEET application number in ascending order

This year, the NTA omitted factors (h) and (i), which considered the candidate’s age and application number, respectively. In other words, the age and application number were no longer taken into account when determining different ranks for candidates with equal or perfect scores. Points (a) to (g) of the formula were deemed sufficient to break ties for all candidates, except for Prabhanjan J and Bora Varun Chakravarthi.

An NTA official explained, “Since both candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 marks with no incorrect answers, it was impossible to break the tie between them using points (a) to (g) of the formula. As a result, only these two candidates shared the top rank, having attained a perfect score.”

When asked about the exclusion of the candidate’s age and application number from the tie-breaking mechanism, the NTA official clarified, “The formula we used ensured that a unique rank could be assigned to all candidates except for these two. This approach would not have caused admission-related issues. Thus, the result committee, comprising representatives from the health ministry, decided to declare the two candidates as joint toppers.”

Last year, the NTA introduced a nine-point tie-breaking formula to avoid the situation that occurred in 2021 when the top three candidates were still tied despite the existing criteria. However, this year, the NTA decided to drop the age and application number from the formula.

The NTA official emphasized that having joint rank holders is not an ideal scenario, especially in the context of medical colleges with limited seats. Hence, in 2022, the NTA implemented the nine-point formula. However, for this year’s results, age and application number were no longer considered in the tie-breaking process.
