The treatment and cure of diseases and illnesses in birds and animals – that’s Veterinary Science, a field that overlaps quite a bit with human medicine.

Veterinarians can choose to work in urban areas, where the work would mostly involvethe care and handling of domestic pets, the government’s animal husbandry departments or animal care centres

Veterinary Science Eligibility Criteria

Veterinary colleges in India have some standard requirements:

 
  • For a Bachelor degree, a 10 + 2 in Science with Biology is required.
  • Entrance into a Bachelor course is determined by an entrance exam that’s conducted by the concerned university.
  • Applicant’s to a Master degree must posses a Bachelor degree with good percentage in a related field and also pass the entrance examination.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply to these marketing courses,

  1. Students must have 50% marks in bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

  2. You will also need to appear for CATGMAT or similar examinations and secure the necessary percentile to qualify for the GDPI rounds of MBA colleges.

  3. Executive MBA in Marketing programs are usually for professionals who want to enhance their skills and strategies and may require the candidate to have relevant work experience.

Veterinary Science Career Prospects

There are several career options available to veterinary science graduates. They can find jobs in the following establishments:
  • Dairy research institutes
  • Large-scale dairy, piggery and poultry farms
  • Pet care private practice or clinic
  • Govt. employed public health professionals in zoos, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries
  • Zoological research institutes
  • Academic positions in institutes
  • R&D in veterinary sciences

Veterinary Science Pay Package

The remuneration of a veterinarian depends on the kind of practice and the animals which are under treatment. In government veterinary centres, fresh graduates are appointed as junior veterinary surgeon.

Salaries start from Rs. 10,000 – Rs. 15,000. Private practitioners may pocket anywhere between Rs. 40 – Rs. 500 per patient, depending on treatment handed out and reputation built. Livestock development officers may earnRs.10, 000 – Rs.20, 000.
