Bangalore University, Bangalore was established in July 1964 as an outcome of the University of Mysore with an aim to include institutions of higher education in the metropolitan city Bangalore and rural Kolar district.
After the establishment of the University, it introduced Honours courses in the year 1956-66. Since its inception, Bangalore University has included a large number of affiliated colleges, P.G. research centres and multi-program selection system.
In compliance with this expanded limits, the University moved into a campus’ Jnana Bharati’(JB) which is extended in the area of 1,100 acres of land. At present, the JB Campus houses the administrative office a large number of post-graduate departments, Directorates, Centres of higher learning, Gandhi Bhavan, Ambedkar Bhavan, NSS Bhavan, Outdoor Stadium and other support services.
Bangalore University has completed four decades of its productive existence and is now regarded as one of the largest Universities in Asia. National Assessment and Accrediation Council (NAAC) has been accredited this university with five stars status in the year of 2001.
The University is being categorized into six faculties namely Arts, Science, Commerce and Management, Education, Law and Engineering. Besides, it has 41 post-graduate departments and offers 51 post-graduate courses.
The Bangalore University has established the Directorate of Correspondence Courses and Distance education in 1976. Initially it was offering only few external courses. But with the passing time it developed and included both correspondence courses and Open University schemes. With the initiation of these courses, it started offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses, postgraduate diplomas and certificate courses.
In addition to these, the Directorate being collaborated with M/s. APTECH Ltd also and offers a 3-years Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) course in the distance education mode.
The Directorate is making all efforts to meet all the requirements of distance education and to democratize higher education. Thus, the Directorate is catering to the learners who could not pursue their studies in regular courses.
The various courses offered in correspondence are: B.A, B.Com, B.B.M, M.A (all Subjects except Sanskrit and French), M.Com, M.Sc (Mathematics), Diploma, P.G Diploma and Certificate Courses. The Open University Scheme offers only B.A & B.Com courses.
Separate applications should be submitted for each PG Course. The Processing Fee is Rs. 200/- per application and Rs.100/- for SC/ ST/Cat-I applicants. The candidates shall submit duly filled in application along with the receipt of Processing Fee paid through Online/Offline mode. The filled-in application, along with the photocopies of relevant documents for their claims, shall be submitted in person or by Registered Post Acknowledgement Due, to the concerned Chairperson of the Department, so as to reach within the last date notified .
