Maharashtra’s first Indian Institute of Management (IIM) has begun operations in Nagpur and was inaugurated by the state chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on 23 July, 2015. India’s premier management institute, IIM Ahmedabad would act as the mentor to IIM Nagpur
Nagpur is a city that is fast developing as an education hub in the state after Pune, well known for its engineering institutions. Currently, IIM Nagpur’s campus is located in Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur until its own campus shall be set up on a land area of 230 acres. All students would be getting single-seater accommodation with excellent rooms as well as furniture. The hostel is just some hundred metres away from the classroom. Students shall get state-of-art and fully connected premises at the campus having access to best knowledge database but students are required to own laptop and having a smartphone.
The Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management at IIM Nagpur is a two year, full-time residential program. It aims to make managers with robust conceptual foundations as well as analytical understanding no matter where they are – in government, non-profit or corporate sector. The PGP Program is divided into six terms including a summer internship. Some of the subjects that are covered include Marketing Management, Operations Management, Financial Markets, MacroEconomics, Financial Reporting and Analysis amongst many others.

Since recruitment is a long process, faculty from IIM Ahmedabad shall be delivering lectures in order to ensure that the teaching standards are maintained at IIM Nagpur. The overall design as well as quality of the programme would be done with direct involvement of its mentor IIMA. Hence, a student can expect to get guidance from some of the best faculty members in the country.
IIM A has the distinction of having done work in sectors such as agriculture, telecom, e-governance as well as infrastructure. Hence, 53 years of IIMA’s history of excellence in management education can be directly connected to IIM Nagpur.
The tuition fees for IIM Nagpur is Rs. 10 Lakhs for two years. However, students would be provided with the breakup of the fee once they get the admission letter.
Most of the leading banks offer educational loans at concessional terms as per Govt. of India guidelines for all IIMs including IIM Nagpur. Student shall have to pay Rs.50,000 at the time of admission, from which only Rs.1000 shall be retained as per Indian government guidelines. However, details of exact amount as well as mode of payment would be sent with admission offer.
Candidates get admission to the programme through the internationally acclaimed Common Admission Test (CAT). The admission process for the 2017-2019 academic session takes into account the candidate’s Past Academic Performance (PAP), Work Experience (WE) as well as performance in CAT 2016.
While the overall CAT percentile cut off for general candidate is 90, for students from other categories it is between 65-85 percentile. The candidates who applied to IIM Nagpur at the time of CAT 2016 registration and who meet the cut-offs would be receiving an email from IIM Nagpur.
Overall the selection process for shortlisting 60 students for the first batch is comprehensive and it is ensured that selected candidates are best suited to the management programme in order to churn out good quality managers.
