Introduction
IIT Rajasthan is one among the new set of IITs announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. IIT Rajasthan is an autonomous statutory body established under the Institutes of Technology Act as amendment made by The Institute of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963. IIT Kanpur has been designated as the mentor IIT for looking after the incubation activities of the new IIT in Rajasthan.
Academics
To start with, a 4-year B.Tech. programme will be offered in three branches, viz., Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering with a strength of 40 students in each branch. The curriculum, course structure and syllabus for the first year courses and the fee structure and other rules will be broadly same as in the mentor IIT i.e IIT Kanpur.The first year classes are proposed to be held at the IIT Kanpur campus and the students admitted will be relocated to the place in Rajasthan where the new IIT will be established. The students and the parents taking admission in the new IIT Rajasthan will be required to give an undertaking to this effect.

Scholarships
Merit-cum-Means Scholarships for Undergraduate students:
1. Certain eligible students receive full tuition fee waiver, and pocket allowance of Rs 1000/- PM or free basic mess and a pocket allowance of Rs 250/-PM for the duration of the program.
2. These are merit based limited number of scholarships, hence, the recipients must maintain a minimum CPI of 6.5. However, if CPI falls below 6.5 (but remains above 6.0) then pocket allowance is withdrawn.
3. Normally, parent’s annual income should be within certain limits (currently Rs 2 Lakhs).
4. Other terms and conditions for award of merit-cum-means scholarship will be prescribed from time to time.
5. A committee consisting of Director, Registrar and two Instructor representatives will scrutinize the applications for short-listing the eligible students in every semester.
6. The students who are already receiving scholarship from any other source are not eligible for the assistance under this scheme.
7. The application should be submitted before August 31st for the 1st semester and January 31st for the 2nd semester of every Academic Year.
