Advanced Center for Materials Science
Advanced Centre for Materials Science was formed in 1978 with the objective to make available major materials preparation and characterization facilities under one-roof. This state-of-the-art research facility is regularly upgraded, and maintained by suitably trained competent staff. The Centre has been serving the needs of the materials community from the institute as well as other academic and industrial establishments for about twenty five years.

Advanced Centre for Electronic Systems
The department has a rich tradition of teaching and research and is widely recognized to be a pioneer in Electrical Engineering education in India. The research activity of the department includes fundamental research, sponsored and consultancy projects, and is carried out with active participation of the students, faculty and research engineers.

The Center for Laser Technology (CELT) at IIT Kanpur is geared towards research in various specialized applications of lasers like laser spectroscopy, laser-plasma studies, ultrafast phenomena, bio-medical optics optics, photonic devices, semiconductor lasers, interferometric tomography, optical networks,particle image velocimetry, laser schlieren.

The Center for Robotics initiated a number of activities in the frontier area of Mechatronics, and has become truly interdisciplinary. In view of this, the name of the Center has been changed to Center for Mechatronics.
