The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) is an undergraduate medical programme. Nursing education is monitored by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). The B.Sc. Nursing curriculum focuses on teaching students how to care for patients so as to “attain optimum health for all members of…society.” They do this by targeting specific medical principles, such as assessment of health based on physical, biological, and social sciences; analysis of health problems in a systematic way; and proper administration of medical [nursing] services to improve the health of patients.
The length of the program is about four years for the Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree. The total cost of the program varies based on the institution, but it generally falls between Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 2,00,000. Requirements for the B.Sc. in Nursing generally include that students be 17 years of age at time of admission and that he/she must pass the 10+2 Exam in the science stream with physics, chemistry, biology and English. A minimum of 45 percent marks in each course is needed and he/she must pass and well in the university’s entrance exam.
