On Saturday, August 27, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School in Najafgarh. The Chief Minister said that the school would help students better understand the entrance examination patterns of the various armed forces.

One year ago, there was no Sainik school in Delhi. But through the tireless efforts of many, preparations began, and the school was completed within that year. At the event, the chief minister said that he was grateful to those who had made the dream possible on behalf of Delhi and the country. He said that education and other facilities are accessible at the school, which has always been his goal–an education system where the rich and the poor can study together.

He said that retired officers would coach the students. “I found out that the students are from different types of schools. There will be psychometric tests, personality development workshops, and mock tests to prepare students for the armed forces,” Kejriwal said. He said the school was named after Bhagat Singh so that students could learn from his life.”

At 23, Kejriwal participated in the freedom struggle and gave his life. Today’s youngsters at that age are worried about getting a girlfriend, he said, adding that they should imbibe his ideals and learn from his life.

The residential school will admit students to classes 9 and 11. There will be 200 seats – 100 in each class. The students will be taught by retired army officers, navy officers and the air force.

The aptitude test for admission to Class 9 will be conducted on March 27, and the enrolment test for Class 11 will be held the next day, as announced by the school’s principal. In the second phase, interviews will be conducted. The students will be taught by retired officers of the army, navy and air force.
