IGNOU To Conduct Orientation Of 15 Lakh Teachers From Higher Education Institutions

The IGNOU University will be handling the orientation process of 15 lakh higher education teachers.

15 lakh teachers from higher education institutes to receive orientation from IGNOU

IGNOU has been entrusted by the Ministry of Education with the responsibility of orienting 15 lakh higher education teachers from universities as well as their constituent colleges. It will be handling the orientation process for a period of 6 months as part of the National Education Policy 2022 implementation. Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Minister of India, has proposed that the program be launched on 5th September 2022 in order to commemorate Teacher’s Day.

This orientation will include a training program of 36 hours on the National Education Policy – Professional Development Program (NEP-PDP) exclusively for educators from higher education institutes. It will be provided by the Senior Regional Director of IGNOU Noida, Dr. Amit Chaturvedi.

The NEP-PDP is a free-of-cost program that is recognized by the University Grants Commission as well. UGC considered it as an equivalent program to their 6-day long short-term professional development program. Teachers have up to 9 days to finish the NEP-PDP program. Through the NEP-PDP program, the educators will have an in-depth understanding of the NEP-2020 and its different dimensions. The registration for the same began on Independence Day.

Highlights of the NEP-PDP program

Available in blended mode

The NEP-PDP program will have a blended learning mode, which will comprise the following:

  • 4 self-learning of the digital modules (each module contains 14 units)
  • 30 digital videos
  • 1 online synchronous interaction through the Swayam Prabha Channel-20
  • 1 asynchronous discussion forum on the SWAYAM platform.

Short term program

All the educators will have 6-9 days to complete the program. There will be a program-end test worth 70 marks (35 MCQs) and a discussion forum test worth 30 marks (15 MCQs). After the assessment is completed, the teachers who received 50% or more on the tests will be awarded an eCertificate of completion. They can use this certificate for career advancement requirements that are specified by UGC such as CAS, API, and more.

It’s important to note that any teacher working in a higher education institute in India is eligible for the program. They will have to register themselves at the Samarth-NEP portal. They will also have to upload their scanned signature, recent photograph, and an ID card from the institution or a copy of a recommendation letter from the head of the institute.
