UGC Announces New Fellowships And Research Grants

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that they will be launching several fellowships and grant schemes on the occasion of Teachers’ day on the UGC’s online portal. These new schemes have been created in order to benefit the country’s higher educational institutions. Take a look at these new grant schemes and fellowships:

Fellowship for superannuated faculty members

Created for superannuated faculty members, this fellowship aims to offer research opportunities for them. There will be 100 people selected for this fellowship, with each candidate receiving Rs. 50,000 per month and a contingency of Rs. 50,000 per annum. The fellowship’s tenure is three years.

Candidates interested in this fellowship must be under the age of 67 years and have supervised the Ph.D. dissertations of at least 10 full-time candidates. Out of these 10 candidates, 3 must have received their degrees during the past decade. Apart from this, the applicant must have worked as a Principal Investigator and handled at least three sponsored research projects that were funded by any national or international agencies. Also, during the tenure of the fellowship, candidates must not have any administrative responsibility.

Research grant for In-Service Faculty Members

This fellowship is aimed at regularly appointed faculty members to provide them with research opportunities. 200 selected candidates will be provided Rs. 10 lakh as a research grant for the tenure of two years.

Candidates who want to be part of this fellowship must be under the age of 50 years and have at least 10 years of service left from the date of their application submission. In addition to this, they must have finished at least 2 research projects funded by private or national/international government agencies and supervised the Ph.D. dissertations of at least 5 full-time candidates.

Dr. D.S. Kothari Research Grant for Newly Recruited Faculty Members

This fellowship is for the newly recruited faculty members in order to help them get research opportunities. 132 selected candidates will receive the grant of Rs. 10 lakh over the tenure of two years.

In order to be eligible for this grant, candidates must be newly appointed Assistant Professors and have a Ph.D. degree with at least five research papers. Also, they must be within the time period of two years from their joining date.

Dr. Radhakrishnan UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowship

This fellowship focuses on providing the opportunity to pursue research and advanced studies in the fields of Engineering and Technology, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities, including the languages in Indian institutions. There are 900 seats in this fellowship, out of which 30% are reserved for women candidates. Each selected candidate will receive Rs. 50,000 every month and Rs. 50,000 every year as a contingency.

Candidates interested in this fellowship must be unemployed with a Ph.D. They should have at least 55% marks or equivalent at the PG level. The transgender and reserved categories candidates will get a relaxation of 5% marks. Also, they must be a first-time applicant for the UGC post-doctoral fellowship. There is also an age restriction for this fellowship. The general category candidates must be under the age of 35 years and candidates from the transgender, reserved, or women categories must be under the age of 40 years. 

All the candidates are required to identify a supervisor or a mentor for their post-doctoral research and obtain their consent for the same.

Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child

This fellowship aims to encourage the education of the single girl child as well as research work that leads to the obtaining of a Ph.D. degree. It has a tenure of five years and no fixed number of slots.

All single girl children who are pursuing a full-time Ph.D. from a recognized institution in any stream/subject can apply for this fellowship. Women from the general category must be under the age of 40 years, while women from the reserved categories must be under 45.
