“In the middle, my father wanted me to study medicine by taking up biology, but I was more interested in maths. So I did my engineering after passing intermediate — in 2011, I got selected for NIT Durgapur to study mechanical engineering,” he says.
“In the campus placements, I got posted in Hindalco, Sonbhadra. Then I went to Delhi and started my civil services preparation. For five years, I couldn’t succeed, but in the lockdown, I prepared from home and finally bagged the fourth rank in in the UP PCS 2021 exam,” Nishant says.
He credits his parents, family and best friends for his success.
Nishant’s father, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Upadhyay, is very happy for his son’s success. “Nishant is very promising from the beginning itself. He used to study for 8 to 10 hours everyday for the PCS exam,” he says.
He reveals that Nishant has also appeared for the IAS exam thrice. He couldn’t clear it twice and the result of the last attempt is yet to be released. Dr. Upadhyay has full faith that his son will become an IAS.
“Nishant loved to study. We never had to poke him to do anything. Waking up on time and studying on time was his daily job,” says Nishant’s mother.
