The IITB-Monash Research Academy is based in Mumbai, India. The academy is a partnership of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) and Monash University, both in the field of applied science, engineering and technology. For the purpose of promoting engineering research the institute offers IITB-Monash Research Academy Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) scholarships.
The duration of the Ph.D. program is generally three to four years and the scholarship is worth approximately Rs. 2,80,000 per annum. International student fees are waived at Monash University. A six-month minimum period of study is required to take place in Australia. For this period, a grant of up to AUD $11,000 is arranged for scholarship recipients. Study in Australia takes place under your Monash University co-supervisor. Monash University has waived off its fee for this programme; you only need to pay for each semester to IIT Bombay.

The program is open to candidates with a first class master’s degree in science or engineering from a reputed university or a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering with a high GPA. Intake into the program occurs in June and December.
Qualification through the following with a good score is a plus, though it is not a prerequisite: Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Common Admission Test (CAT) or similar exam.
Proficiency in the English language is essential. This is assessed based on how you answer certain questions in Form A, your language of instruction and your responses in the interview. A GATE, GRE, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score is not required, but if you have one, include it. IELTS scores are needed for Australia’s visa application process.
There is no age limit for the scholarship.
Complete the online EOI form at the IITB-Monash website. If the institute finds your form to be acceptable, you may receive an email about proceeding to step 2 of the application process. Form A should be submitted with your academic transcripts. You will be evaluated based on your academic record, background and research interests.
Shortlisted candidates will need to travel to IIT Bombay. Second class sleeper fare from your home town is reimbursed, provided you bring the original train ticket to Mumbai and a photocopy of your ticket from Mumbai. Bus tickets may also be reimbursed with correct documentation.
