The Indian Navy possesses highly sophisticated ships, submarines and aircraft, which are operated by sailors, who are given training at various intervals during their service. Indian Navy Sailors Matric Entry Recruitment Exam is held twice a year.
Marital Status:Â Unmarried Indian Male citizens are eligible.
Age:Â 17-20 years on the 1st January or 1st August of the year of examination.
Educational Qualifications:Â Matric or equivalent with 55% or above marks in Science and Maths. Candidates having less than 55% marks in Matric are also eligible provided they have got 55% or above marks in any higher board examination with Science and Maths.
Physical Standards:
(i) Height:Â 157 cms (minimum) for 18 years of age
(ii) Weight:Â Proportionate to height (plus and minus 10% acceptable)
(iii) Chest: Well developed and proportioned with minimum expansion range of 5cms
(iv) Without glasses better eye 6/6 and worse eye 6/9. Colour Perception: CP II;
(v) Good mental and physical health free from any disease/disability.
The Written Test will have four sections:
Section I:Â English
Section II:Â Science
Section III:Â Maths
Section IV:Â GK
The question paper will be bilingual and objective type and of 1 hour duration. The results will be announced on the same day.
Those who qualify will undergo Physical Fitness Test and Medical Examination. Those who are declared medically fit would be considered fully qualified and those who are declared temporary unfit will be required to appear for Review Medical on the stipulated date.
Performance in Written Examination, Computer Knowledge, Sports and NCC will be taken into consideration for the final selection. After enrollment candidates will be sent on Railway Warrant to Chilika (Orissa) for initial training of 24 weeks.
For Sportsmen:Â Outstanding sportsmen who have participated at National/State Level will have to qualify in the Sports trials in addition to written exam, PFT and Medical.
Training:Â 24 weeks Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by 24 weeks professional training in the allotted trade in Naval Establishments all over the country. Branch/Trade will be allocated as per requirement of service.Â

The Application Form may be used or the format may be typed on plain paper. Candidates applying for more than one entry are to submit separate applications. However, only one application form is to be filled for a particular entry.
Choice of entry is to be clearly indicated on the application form. Application sent through agent will not be accepted. Candidates applying for DE (DH) entry are to clearly indicate in their application the Branch/Trade (Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical) they are applying. The choice should be as per their specialization in three year Diploma Course.
Documents:Â The following documents are to be punched and tied firmly with a strong thread to the application in the sequence below:-
(a) Two spare recent PP size photos with the candidate’s name written on the reverse (In the absence of recent photograph candidate will not be allowed to appear in the examination).
(b) Application filled in capital letters with one recent PP size photograph pasted at the right top corner.
(c) Attested copy of matric /equivalent certificate for verification of date of birth.
(d) Attested copy of mark sheet of Diploma/Higher Board examination/ Matriculation, as applicable.
(e) Attested copy of certificate indicating computer knowledge achieved, if any.
(f) Attested copy of other certificates viz NCC/Sports/etc.Â
(g) Two self addressed envelopes of size 22 x 10 cms with Rs 4/- stamp affixed on each to be submitted along with the application and one blank envelope with the stamp is to be brought at the time of examination.Â
Envelope:Â The Type of Entry and choice of examination Centre is to be clearly written on top of the envelope containing the application.
