Around 33.6 percent of seats went unfilled in undergraduate engineering colleges during the academic year 2021-22, minister of state for education Subhas Sarkar told the Rajya Sabha today. Sarkar was replying to a question on how many BTech engineering seats have been vacant over the last five years.

When asked why BTech seats tend to be vacant, Sarkar explained that “the filling up of seats in engineering institutes is dependent on the demand-supply situation which is dependent on the location of the institutes, academic and infrastructural facilities therein and the placement opportunities.”

The minister shared that 33.6% of BTech seats remained vacant in the academic year 2021-22. More than 4 lakh seats are vacant in 2021-22 against the 12,53,337 sanctioned BTech seats.

XAT 2023

The Xavier Admissions Test (XAT) has seen a big jump in the number of registrations for the upcoming edition of the examination. For XAT 2023, the number of registrations has gone up by 25 percent to reach a total of 98,242 applicants this time around.

XAT, conducted by the Xavier School of Management (XLRI), is one of the largest national entrance tests for Masters in Business Administration (MBA) held by XLRI. With this increase in registrations, XLRI is expecting a large pool of diverse and talented students to choose from for their MBA program.

A total of 98,242 students have applied to take the XAT 2023, with 63.78 percent of those applicants being male and 36.21 percent female. This is a significant increase from CAT 2022 registrations, which only saw 11 percent growth.

Dummy

This break in the decade-long trend of little to no growth in XAT and CAT registrations is likely due to the recent closing of registrations for XAT 2023 on December 11th.

The XLRI is holding the exam on Sunday, January 8. The computer-based test will be completed in a single session lasting for 3 hours and 10 minutes across more than 70 cities in India. The result is set to be declared on or by January 31. The syllabus for XAT 2023 will include decision-making, verbal and logical ability, quantitative ability and data interpretation, general knowledge, and an essay writing section.

XAT is one of the most important MBA entrance exams in India. If you’re hoping to get into XLRI’s Jamshedpur or Delhi NCR campuses, you’ll need to take the XAT. In addition to XLRI, over 160 other MBA colleges accept XAT scores. These include prestigious institutions like Great Lakes, GIM Goa, XIMB, IMT, IMI, and TAPMI. As long as you have a three-year bachelor’s degree from any recognized institute, you’re eligible to apply for the exam. And there’s no age limit for taking the XAT 2023.
