JEE Main Counselling Procedure & Dates 2023: From the 2015-16 academic session, the IITs and the NITs (& other institutes) are conducting common counselling for seat allocation to avoid wasting of seats.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development has formed JoSAA “Joint Seat Allocation Authority” to oversee the joint seat allocation for the IITs and NITs. It consists of representatives from the Joint Admission Board (JAB) 2023 (for IITs/ISM) and the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) 2023 (for NITs, IIITs (Triple-I-Ts) and Other-GFTIs). JoSAA is the ONLY authorized agency responsible for joint seat allocation.
The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) headquartered at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Patna will be conducting the seat allocation (counselling) to various engineering and architecture institutes on the basis of the JEE Main 2023 ranks(All India Rank – AIR) which will be published in July 2023
The common counselling was conducted for more than 33,900 seats in the 18 IITs, one ISM, 32 NITs, 18 IIITs and 18 other Government Funded Technical Institutes (other GFTIs) for the academic year 2023-22.

Stages of JEE Main Counselling 2023
The entire seat allocation process or JEE main counselling procedure would involve the following steps:
1.Online registration
- Register themselves on the official website of JoSAA.
- Log in using the JEE Main 2023 Application No., Password, and Security Pin.
- Fill in all the asked information regarding counselling and click on Submit
- Reverify all the furnished details and click on the “Confirm Registration” button
2. Online choice filling and locking of choices
- Candidates are then required to select their choices of college and its programs.
- The choices filled can be selected from the list provided.
- Change/edit/delete their filled choices.
- Lock the choices before the last date.
- Choice Locking is done after each round of JEE Main 2023 Counselling is concluded.
3. Declaration of seat allocation and document verification
Seat Allotment through JoSAA depends on the following factors:
- Category (Gen., OBC-NCL, SC, etc.)
- All India Ranking (AIR) in JEE Main 2023 rank list(s)
- According to the priority order of choices selected by the candidates for academic programs and institutes.
- Availability of seats under different seat quotas ( if the candidate is eligible).
4.Getting admitted to the allocated institute
- The seat acceptance fee for JEE Main 2023 is INR 35,000 for all the candidates.
- The JEE Mains Counselling Fees can be paid through SBI Net Banking/ e-Challan.
- On the contrary, candidates belonging to SC / ST / PwD category will have to pay INR 15,000 as a seat acceptance fee.
5. Reporting to the Allotted College
The final step, but the most important step in JEE Main 2023 Counselling procedure is reporting to the assigned institutes with original certificates and documents on the allotted date and time slot.
