Science and Technology Park  (STEP)

The Science and Technology Park (STEP) was registered as a society in December 1986 and approved by department of science and technology on August 1987. The department has started its operation in 1989.

The purpose behind STEP was to provide b infrastructure and environment for developing techno entrepreneurs who would start industrial ventures with the help of the Institute.

The STEP-IIT Kharagpur has two premises – one at the IIT Campus provided by IIT Kharagpur and the other at Gopali, a village 5 Kms away from the IIT Campus. Here, more than 100 acres of land has been provided to STEP for promotion of its activites, by the Government of Bengal.

Quality Improvement Programme (QIP)

The Institute offers Quality Improvement Programme with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The programme is also offered by other IITs, IISc and few other institutions.
