Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has requested Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and chief minister Pramod Sawant to allot a permanent center for conducting the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) in Goa, for entry into one of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology.

This, he said, will allow Goan students to answer the examination without facing the hardships of traveling out of the state. He highlighted the recent case of Goan students who had to travel to Sawantwadi in Maharashtra to answer Session 2 of the JEE (Main) 2022.

“It is given to understand that there is a 50% reservation for Goan students in NIT Goa. But this year, no center was allotted to Goa because of which over 1,000 students had to travel out of Goa for it,” he said. He stated that travel affects the mental state of students who are already stressed out about answering an exam like JEE.
