The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is launching an industry-oriented Online Certificate Programme on e-Mobility for Working Professionals. The course will provide an overview of the e-mobility eco-system as well as touch on some key technical areas such as vehicle development, power electronics, battery engineering, thermal management, power trains, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) or electromagnetic interference (EMI). By the end of this course, students will have a better understanding of each topic and be able to apply that knowledge to future projects.

The program offers 120 hours of video classes and another 40 hours of online contact classes with the faculty. The candidates will need to complete regular assignments and a final evaluation, after which they will receive a certificate. The first cohort will start at the beginning of October and registrations will happen on a first-come-first-served basis.

Professor V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, announced the school’s dual degree in EV engineering late last year. Since then, he’s received many inquiries from industry contacts and others about the need to re-skill or up-skill existing employees as the auto industry rapidly moves to EVs in the coming years.

The program, which was created to meet the needs of working engineers who want to learn more about e-mobility, will be taught by CODE (Centre for Outreach and Digital Education) at IIT Madras. According to Professor Devendra Jalihal, Chairman of CODE, the program is designed for engineers in various aspects of e-mobility such as manufacturing, sourcing, quality, aftermarket, etc. as well as those looking to transition into e-mobility product development.
