NHFDC Scholarship 2016 - 17

The National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC), on the behalf of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India has invited applications from students with disabilities. The scholarships for the upcoming academic year 2016 to 2017 are under the scholarship schemes trust fund and national fund.

Trust fund

  • 1,500 scholarships for handicapped students for undergraduate and postgraduate technical and professional courses.
  • Applicants can apply at any time during the scholarship year and scholarships will be awarded on a quarterly basis.
  • 30 percent of scholarships are reserved for girls, but in case an adequate number of female candidates is not available the residual seats will be available to male candidates.
  • Non-refundable fees reimbursement per the fees in government colleges or government-aided colleges will be given to students.
  • Maintenance allowance of Rs. 2,500 will be given to the students of undergraduate professional courses each month for ten months. Those seeking postgraduate courses will be given a maintenance fee of Rs. 3,000 per month.
  • Books and stationary allowance amounting to Rs. 6,000 for undergraduate courses and Rs.10,000 for postgraduate courses will also be given for pursuing professional courses.
  • Financial assistance will be provided to students with visual, orthopaedic or hearing disabilities for their assisting devices or aids (given once).

National fund

  • 500 scholarships available for students with disabilities to pursue higher academic, technical or professional qualifications.
  • Applicants must apply between 1 July and 31 August, 2013.
  • Scholarship is Rs. 700 per month for day scholars, Rs. 1,000 for hostellers (professional courses graduation and above).
  • Scholarship is Rs. 400 per month for day scholars, Rs. 700 per month for hostellers at the diploma/certificate level in professional courses.

Important dates

Applicants to the trust fund scholarship may apply at any time. Scholarships are given on a quarterly basis. The dates for national fund are listed below.

Eligibility criteria

Students with disabilities must meet the criteria below for each scholarship in order to be eligible.

Trust fund

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination for undergraduate scholarships
  • For postgraduate scholarships, a graduation level course is required
  • The monthly income of the guardian or beneficiary must not be over Rs. 25,000
  • The student must not be availing any other stipend or scholarship program

National fund

  • Monthly income of parent or guardian should not exceed Rs. 15,000
  • Student cannot hold another stipend or scholarship

Application procedure

  1. Applications are only available at the official website, www.nhfdc.nic.in
  2. Apply online with necessary documents
  3. The printed application along with the photocopies of all documents countersigned by the head of the department must be posted to National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC), Red Cross Bhavan, Sector-12, Faridabad-121007.
  4. The following is the list of required enclosures:

Trust fund

  • Attested copies of all mark sheets and relevant certificates of qualifying examination
  • Proof of annual income like salary slip or income tax certificate of beneficiary/parent/guardian attested by a gazetted government official/MLA/MLC/MP/Panchayat official
  • Attested photocopy of disabled certificate
  • Course fee receipt, if applicable
  • Invoice or receipt of assistive device duly attested by the authorised signatory of the institution
  • In case the candidate wishes to carry on with the scholarship program in the following year, then the mark sheet of the preceding year must be submitted

National fund

  • Attested copies of all mark sheets and relevant certificates of qualifying examination
  • Proof of annual income like salary slip or income tax certificate of beneficiary/parent/guardian
  • Attested photocopy of disabled certificate
  • Course fee receipt, if applicable
  • Hostel certificate or a certificate from a house owner (applicable in certain cases)
