The University Grants Commission (UGC) is by far the biggest public sector educational finance provider in India. It offers a vast number and range of scholarships to students at different cadres of education systems within India and abroad. In recent decades there has been an unprecedented rise in the attention given to the education of women and the UGC has established many scholarships to forward this very agenda. The Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship for Research in Social Sciences 2015-2016, in particular, aims to facilitate the educational pursuits of single child female students in the field of social sciences. This article will provide interested candidates with the necessary particulars to apply for this scholarship.
This scholarship is exclusively meant for single child female students who are applying for full-time Social Science Ph.D courses in any recognized university or institution. Correspondence and distance learning courses are not covered in this scholarship.
The last date to apply for the scholarship is 30 June, 2015.
Students awarded the scholarship shall receive a sum of Rs.12,400 per month for the first two years of the program and Rs. 15,500 per month for the remaining two years of the program. The grant may be extended for the fifth year in exceptional cases.
Any female student enrolled in any Ph.D program in Social Sciences who is also the only child in the family without any male or female siblings is eligible for the scholarship. Applicants must be below the age of 40 years for the general category and 45 for reserved category SC/ST/OBC and Physical handicapped at the time of admission in Ph.D courses.
