Graduate Record Exam (GRE) - Eligibility

Candidates who are eligible to pursue graduate and business programs worldwide are eligible to appear for the GRE. The GRE scores are used by admissions authorities or fellowship panels to supplement undergraduate academic achievement, extracurricular records and other qualifications for graduate study. Applicants must however ensure that they fulfill the GRE eligibility criteria 2022 of the colleges that they are applying to, through GRE scores.

Some GRE Subject Tests yield sub scores that can indicate an individual’s strengths and weaknesses and may be useful for guidance and placement purposes.

GRE test scores are valid for five years (most universities accept scores up to five years old). But recent scores may be preferred (not older than 2 years)

GRE General Test Fee

Test fees for the GRE may vary according to the country in which you take the test. The worldwide fee for standard test administration is U.S. is payable at the time of GRE registration. You cannot pay in Indian rupees. Acceptable forms of payment are credit/debit card or money order/certified check/voucher for computer-based tests.

The GRE exam fee effective from 1 July, 2021 for taking the GRE General Test in:
China: USD 231.30
Rest of the world: USD 205 (approx INR 14,681.59)

  • Rescheduling fee (China): USD 53.90
  • Rescheduling fee (Rest of the world): USD 50

The exam fee effective from 1 July, 2021 for taking the GRE Subject Test:
Worldwide: USD 150 (approx INR 10,742.63)

  • Late registration fee (online registration only): USD 25
  • Standby testing:  USD 50
  • Rescheduling fee:  USD 50
  • Changing your test centre:  USD 50
  • Changing your Subject Test:  USD 50

The test fee for the GRE Subject Test is currently $150 (approx INR 10,742.63)
