Scholarships to Study in New Zealand for Higher Education

To give an impetus to international students, New Zealand authorities as well as other international bodies offer scholarships to students to pursue a career in the top ranked New Zealand universities. Here’s a look at some of the well known scholarships offered by universities or the NZ government that will attract Indian and international students planning to study abroad:

1) Commonwealth Scholarship Plan, New Zealand Awards

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan is a global programme under which commonwealth member countries offer scholarships to the citizens of other countries. 2) New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships

This scholarship is being funded by the NZ government through “Education New Zealand” with the aim to draw in the best foreign researchers to the country. New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS) are open to all international students who meet the eligibility criteria to pursue PhD at any of the 8 universities of New Zealand.

NZIDRS scholarships will cover your university tuition fee for 3 years; provide tax free, annual stipend of NZD 25,000 (approximately Rs. 12 lakh) and also give a medical insurance coverage of NZD 600 (Rs.29,000.)

Closing date of NZIDRS application is 15th of July every year.  Applications will be accepted from early May until 5pm (NZ time) on 15th of July 2016.

3) New Zealand Excellence Awards

35 scholarships (worth NZD 5,000 each) for Indian students planning to pursue courses in business, fashion or STEM related fields. Apply before 1 October, 2016 (for the Nov 2016 intake) and before 30 November, 2016 (for the Feb 2017 intake.) Learn more: New Zealand Excellence Awards 2016

 

4) University of Auckland's Dean's Asia Scholarships (Faculty of Business & Economics)

This scholarship is open to Asian (and therefore Indian) students who are eligible to pursue B.Com or Bachelor of Property at the University of Auckland. Apply before 27 November, 2016.

5) Colombo Plan Engineering Scholarship

Students who are citizens of “Colombo Plan” member countries (India is a member) are eligible to apply for this scholarship to pursue engineering (UG or PG) at the University of Auckland. Apply before 1 August, 2016.

6) Asian Development Bank Japan Scholarship

Students from various Pacific Islands countries and Asian countries (including India) are eligible for this scholarship if they get accepted into selected Masters/ Diploma/ Doctoral courses offered by the University of Auckland. Learn more: ADB-Japan Scholarship 2016
