Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (U.P.)

A Hall of Residence is a cluster of hostels administered by a Provost and a number of teacher wardens who look after different hostels. All inmates are required to dine in the common Dinning Hall, unless exempted by the Provost. The Halls of residence are the centres of corporate life in the University. Each Hall maintains a Common Room with facilities for indoor games, a Reading Room, Library, Sports Clubs and a Literary and Cultural Society. Self-governance by students is encouraged. The Provost and Wardens seek the cooperation and assistance of Monitors and other representatives of students in the administration of the Hall of residence and in maintaining discipline.

Permission to live outside the Hall is given to students only if they are living at Aligarh with their parents or very close relations. Non-resident male students are under the charge of the Provost, N.R.S.C. and Non-resident women students are under the charge of the Provost, Abdullah Hall/Sarojni Naidu Hall/New Hall.

There are 16 Halls of residence comprising 69 hostels – as under:

University of Pune, Maharashtra

The University maintains a 32 room well furnished Guest House facility. 
Apart from this the University also maintains a chain of 8 hostels for male & 6 hostels for female students with accommodation for about 1200 students. Residential facility for about 130 members of the faculty & for about 550 members of the non-teaching staff is also available.
 
There is an International Transit House (ITH) with 42 rooms and 6 flatlets for international students and visiting students and academics from abroad. An International Students Hostel (ISH) with 96 rooms and 30 kitchenettes is available for international students. Both the ITH and ISH form part of the proposed International Centre complex which among other things, will have about 300 single – bed rooms, apartments for the visiting faculty and married students & common facilities such as lounges, dining halls, TV rooms, STD / ISD facilities. In addition, it will also have offices for the International Centre and seminar halls & classrooms.
 
An International Students Hostel (ISH) with 96 rooms and 30 kitchenettes is available for International students. Rent for the Hostel : Students will have to pay 5000/- Rs (2000/- refundable & 3000/- Non-refundable) initially. Rent for the room would be 1500 per month. ICCR scholars would be excluded from paying the rent. Students would also be provided with additional facilities like lounges, dining halls, T.V. rooms, STD/ISD facilities.
 
International Transit Hostel (for women) consists of 42 rooms and 6 flatlets for the International Students and the visiting students and academics abroad.
 
Rent for the Hostel : Students will have to pay 5000/- Rs (2000/- refundable and 3000/- Non-refundable) initially. Rent for the room would be 1500/- Rs per month. ICCR scholars would be excluded from paying this rent.

Anna University

The main campus has a University main guest house, and an International House. The University guest house has six air-conditioned VIP suites, three Non-A/C Single Room and a common dining hall. The International House has nine self contained suites each suite with 2 bed rooms, bath, kitchen and dining hall, twenty one double-bed rooms and a common dining hall. The MIT Campus has an alumni guest house with two single bed-rooms, with common lounge, dining hall and kitchen. It also has a rest house with 6 rooms.

University of Allahabad

The number of seats available in the Univ hostels are : Dr Amar Nath Jha hostel (158 seats) ; Sir P C Banerji Hostel (187 seats) ; Sir Sunder Lal hostel (224 seats) ; Sir Ganganath Jha hostel (166 seats) ; Diamond Jubille hostel (184 seats) ; Sarojini Naidu (Women’s) hostel (159 seats) ; Priyadarshini hostel (250 seats) ; Dr Tarachand hostel (300 seats).
 

Banaras Hindu University

The Univ is residential. It has at present 52 hostels out of which 12 are for girls with about 8687 seats. The Univ has also a well-furnished international house where 100 students from foreign countries can be accommodated.

Bangalore University

Hostel facilities are available for 670 students. The constituent colleges of the university also provide hostel facilities.
 

University of Calcutta

The Univ has 7 UG hostels and 13 PG hostels, which provide accommodation for 1,479 men and 287 women students.

University of Mysore

The University has a number of hostels. Maharaja’s College Hostel (261 seats), University hostel 1, Manasagangotri (21 seats), University hostel II, Saraswathipuram (150 seats), PG students hostel (241 seats), PG students hostel (New), Manasagangotri (148 seats), PG students hostel for women, Manasagangotri (21 seats), Students Village Manasagangotri (160 seats), Physical Education College hostel (64 seats) and PG students hostel, BR Project (90 seast).

Punjab University

6 hostels for 1,700 men students and 4 women’s hostels accommodating 850 students.

Visva-Bharati

Students live a community life; all colleges and institutions being residential. There are 15 men’s hostels and 15 women’s hostel.
 

Jadavpur University

Ours is not a residential University. However, we try our best to provide accommodation to needy students from areas outside greater Calcutta or from other parts of the Country. There are 13 (4 for Girls and 9 for Boys) hostels with provision for accommodating over 1300 students. Accommodation in both Women’s hostel and Boys’ hostel falls much short of the demand and efforts are being made for extension of the existing buildings and construction of new buildings.
 
Hostel Mess is conducted by the Students Mess Committee under the guidance of the Superintendent of the respective hostel. The Main Hostel complex is situated outside the campus.At the Main Hostel complex, the P.G. Hostels as well as at the Ladies’ Hostels there are private canteens supervised by the Students’ Committee.
 
We have an exclusive hostel for Research Scholars. A few Research Scholars are accommodated in the Old P. G. and New P.G. Hostels.If you need accommodation in a hostel, you are to collect a prescribed application form from the Information Office and submit it to the Office of the Dean of Students duly filled in. At the time of admission in the hostel, you are to pay about RS. 1375/- in all, inclusive of Caution Deposit and Mess Advance. Besides, you are to pay monthly seat rent & electricity charges at the rate of RS. 15/- & Rs.10/- respectively (to be revised shortly).
 
The payment for two major meals at the hostel varies from one hostel to another and you are to pay every mess bill according to the bill made by the Student’s Mess Committee. Hostel – boarders are to abide by the hostel rules framed from time to time. It may be noted that for non-payment of mess dues, seat rent or electricity charges, the boardership of the hostel may be cancelled. Two passport size photographs are to be submitted to the office of the Dean of Students at the time of hostel admission. Any application of a boarder to any officer must be forwarded through the Hostel Superintendent.
