Assam government to shut down 34 schools due to zero pass percentage in 10th results.

The Assam government is set to close around 34 schools in the state as all the students in these schools failed in the HSLC exams 2022. Read on to find out more.

Assam government to shut down schools

The Assam government has decided to shut down a total of 34 schools where all Class 10th students failed the HSLC Exams in 2022. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced that these schools would be closed but the students would be given a chance to enroll in other schools.

The crackdown comes after not a single student out of a thousand students cleared the Class 10 Board Exams in the state-run schools. As per a report, the education minister has stated that investing the taxpayers’ money on such schools is “meaningless”.

In light of this, the government has decided to cut its losses and move on from these failing institutions. Education is an important right for every individual, and the government is committed to ensuring that every student has access to a quality education.

SEBA declared the HSLC Results for Class 10th on June 7. The overall pass percentage this year was recorded to be 56.49 percent, which is the lowest it has been since 2018.

As per a senior education official, the decision to close down 34 government schools has been taken due to the pass percentage being zero. However, so that the students are not impacted severely, they would be given a chance to enroll in other schools.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been attributed by many officials to the low performance of students and teachers. The shift to physical exams after almost 2 years of online classes caused a sharp decline in the performance of students as well.

The Assam government’s decision has drawn mixed reactions from political parties. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has stated that “closing schools is not a solution”. The Delhi CM further stated that instead of closing the school, the focus should be on improving the school and providing quality education.

IGNOU Admission 2022: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), has launched a B.A in facility and service management program. Interested students can apply on the official website, ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

IGNOU admission 2022

IGNOU’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Services Management has launched a brand new, never before seen 3-year degree programme in facility services management. This is India’s first-of-its-kind programme that prepares students for careers in facility services management.

Interested candidates can apply for the BAFSM programme on the IGNOU official website, ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

To be eligible for the program, applicants should have completed Class 12 or equivalent. The three-year programme will be taught in the English language. Students will be able to apply for the ongoing July 2022 session and the upcoming January session.

“Facility management is a crucial but often overlooked aspect of organizational success. It encompasses the day-to-day operations required to maintain a physical environment that supports an organization’s needs and core functions,” said the institute.

The programme was launched yesterday at the IGNOU headquarters by vice chancellor Nageshwar Rao. He said that the programme is designed with a modular approach that allows learners to opt-in and out after a year or two years, which is consistent with the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) recommendations.

“BAFMS is a job-oriented programme that provides learners with the fundamental knowledge and skill set needed to begin a career in the facility management industry,” it said.

Aneesh Kadyan, an industry expert, has stated that the facility management industry is rapidly expanding. This expansion is causing the roles of facility managers to expand as well, requiring them to take on more responsibilities and skills. Kadyan also pointed out that this discipline is still relatively new in India, whereas it is a mature discipline with excellent job prospects elsewhere.

The Pro VCs who attended the launch programme, including Aneesh Kadyan, Executive Director and National Business Head – Operations at CBRE, RP Das, Srikant Mohapatra, Sumitra Kukreti, and Manroop Singh Meena, all agreed with this sentiment.

JNU student and staff members clashed

On Monday, students and staff members of Jawaharlal Nehru University got into a fight over the release of scholarship money. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) said that the university’s security guards hurt the students while they were demonstrating peacefully.

The students said that their scholarships had been on hold for the past two years, and they went to the JNU administration to ask for them to be given back. Some of the students who were hurt include Rohit Kumar, ABVP’s campus head.

Five students went to the scholarship department at 11 a.m. to enquire about student scholarships, Rohit Kumar said. The guards abused the students and misbehaved with them, he added. “The students have been suffering for over two years now. They aren’t getting non-NET scholarships, MCM (Merit-cum-Means) or even JRF, “he said.

The videos and pictures from the scene show a group of security guards pushing and trying to restrain a group of protesting students inside an administrative office. Some videos show blood stains on the floor, clothed in the dustbins, and shattered glass scattered on the floor.

Several students, displaying their injuries, said they were “targeted” by security guards and suffered severe injuries.

“Few JNU students were demanding for the distribution of scholarships for students, which was pending at the end of the JNU administration for the last 2 years. Students staged a protest at the administration office when the guards of JNU security came and tried to remove protesting students, a scuffle broke out between students and guards on duty,” said Manoj C, DCP (South West).

Gurugram school 11 year old death

An 11-year-old student died in a gurgurm school on Monday morning under suspicious circumstances, police said. The incident occurred around 8.40 am at a private school in sector 64. The girl, a class four student, was captured on CCTV falling unconscious while walking towards her classroom. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital by the school staff, where the doctors declared her dead, the police said.

According to the police, the cause of her death could not be ascertained by post-mortem and, as such, the viscera will be sent to the forensic science laboratory, Bhondsi, for examination.

In the CCTV footage, the girl was climbing up the first step of the staircase when she fell. Police say her body has been handed over to her family after a post-mortem. Dr Sudhir Kumar, who did the post-mortem, told PTI that the girl had a head injury, but it was external and could not be said to have caused her death.

“The girl also had food. The family also did not reveal any old medical problems. In such a situation, it was not understood how she died suddenly,” Dr Kumar said.

Delhi University (DU) has announced it will soon open applications for undergraduate programs for the new academic year. According to a PTI report, the university has asked candidates to make sure their documents and certificates are ready by August 31, 2022. The university has announced that it will be taking admissions based on CUET scores from this year onwards. In a notification released on Thursday, the university listed the certificates required for the admission process, which include Class 10 and 12 certificates, as well as an EWS certificate if applicable.

Candidates who wish to apply to the University of Delhi must make sure that they have the following certificates/documents (as applicable) ready by August 31, 2022,” the notification reads.
