AIIMS is set to introduce the National Exit Test (NExT) for MBBS students

AIIMS is set to introduce the National Exit Test (NExT) for MBBS students

AIIMS faculty from various departments are actively involved in crafting multiple-choice questions for the initial section of the test (known as NExT 1), which aims to evaluate clinical knowledge and learning, according to sources cited by The Indian Express.

AIIMS is set to introduce the National Exit Test (NExT) for MBBS students

AIIMS, Delhi is likely to organize the National Exit Test (NExT) later this year, which will consist of two parts and serve as a qualifying examination for doctor registration and post-graduate admissions. Currently, AIIMS faculty members are working on creating multiple-choice questions for the first part of the test, known as NExT 1, which will primarily assess clinical learning. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has engaged in discussions with AIIMS regarding this matter, but the official announcement designating AIIMS as the conducting agency is still pending. The new NExT will replace the existing final theory paper for MBBS students, with NExT 1 taking the place of university-level final exams. Successful completion of NExT 1 will enable provisional registration with medical councils, a requirement for the mandatory one-year internship. The test will cover subjects such as medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ENT, and ophthalmology, and will consist of multiple-choice questions.

An official from the health ministry mentioned that the upcoming NExT (National Exit Test) examination aims to address the problem of students neglecting their final-year courses to focus on studying for NEET-PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate). The NExT exam will evaluate the clinical skills of students, ensuring that they have practical knowledge gained through attending classes. It will consist of two parts: a theoretical paper and a practical test conducted after completing the internship. The NExT scores will be used as a basis for admission to postgraduate programs. However, this new exam is unlikely to be used for PG admissions this year since NEET-PG 2023 has already taken place, and counseling is scheduled for later this year. Officials stated that students would require sufficient time to prepare for this new format of tests, so it won’t be implemented immediately.

According to a dean from one of India’s major medical colleges, the NExT (National Exit Test) process needs to be initiated soon to ensure that NExT 2 can be held next year after students complete their one-year internship. Conducting NExT 1 in a timely manner will allow the scores to be used for selecting the next batch of postgraduate (PG) students. The NExT exam was proposed under the National Medical Commission Act 2019, aiming to evaluate the skill levels of doctors across the country on a standardized basis. Originally, the test was supposed to be conducted within three years of the act coming into force in 2020, but the National Medical Commission extended the dates by a year through a gazette notification. The dean further explained that although the exam pattern may be different, the questions will be based on the same course as the final MBBS exams. This means that students who have attended classes and prepared for their final exams should be well-equipped to take the NExT exam as well.

Despite facing scrutiny for alleged violations of distance learning norms, SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) maintains its position among the top 50 management institutes in the country, according to the recently released National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 by the Ministry of Education. NMIMS is ranked 21st among management institutes, 88th in the overall category, and 47th among the top 100 universities. Additionally, it secures the 11th position in the category of Pharmacy institutes. In the previous year, NMIMS held the 25th rank in the category of management institutes nationwide.

NMIMS, the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, has managed to maintain its position among the top 50 management institutes in the country despite facing scrutiny over alleged violations of distance learning norms. The Ministry of Education released the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 rankings, which revealed that NMIMS ranks 21st among management institutes, 88th in the overall category, and 47th among the top 100 universities. In the category of Pharmacy institutes, it holds the 11th rank. It is worth noting that in the previous year, NMIMS was ranked 25th among management institutes nationwide.

Expressing his satisfaction with the results, Dr. Ramesh Bhat, the Vice Chancellor of NMIMS University, emphasized the university’s commitment to academic excellence, industry collaborations, and holistic student development. He attributed the improved rankings to these factors and highlighted the notable rise of the School of Business Management (SBM) by four positions, placing it at the 21st position for providing world-class management education. Dr. Bhat also praised the consistent rank of 11 achieved by the Pharmacy School for two consecutive years, which he attributed to the dedication of the faculty and the quality of education offered.

The renowned management institute based in the city gained attention when it faced restrictions from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in offering distance learning and online programs due to violations of regulations. In April, the UGC issued a notice stating that NMIMS had failed to comply with UGC norms, leading to significant violations in various areas such as the operations of the center for internal quality assurance (CIQA), the quality of self-learning material and e-learning material (e-LM), and the nomenclature of the Center for Distance and Online Learning.

CBSE Class 12 Chemistry  analysis: The Chemistry examination for students in Class 12 was administered today by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The majority of students and educators thought the paper was fair and asked all the prescribed questions.

“The chemistry exam had a balanced degree of difficulty. The MCQs were rather blunt. The difficulty level of the questions was comparable to prior years, and the question format matched the CBSE sample exam. The majority of the questions were based on NCERT, and students who have properly reviewed the NCERT pattern would do well in the test, according to Ajay Verma, a PGT Chemistry at DPS Indirapuram.

The paper was simple, according to Sakshi Saroha, a Class 12 student at Orchids The International School in Sonipat, and all of the questions came directly from the curriculum. “The questions based on passages were simple to guess. Even the mathematical equations were easy and took little time. I simply finished the paper in time because it wasn’t that long, she added.

“Based on careful observation, the Class 12 Chemistry exam had a high level of difficulty. Although coming from the NCERT course, the questions on the test were difficult. According to the sample exam that CBSE previously issued, it was a relatively challenging subject to attempt, according to Ruchi Gupta, a PGT in chemistry at MRG School.

The MCQs that were asked in every set this year were different, though. “The theoretical questions were mostly the same, but the MCQs in the sets were different. The questions based on the passages were simple to guess. Because the paper was brief, students handled their time well.

JEE Toppers' Advice: According to Sneha Pareek, AIR 2 regular study is the key to success.

Sneha Pareek, who secured All India Rank 2 in Joint Entrance Exam 2022 Main, shared her preparation tips and tricks for cracking one of the toughest exams in the world. She is currently pursuing Computer Science Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

Sneha always had an interest in the science and technology field, which led her to choose Computer Science as her major. During her final years of school, she studied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and Physical Education. She knew that the college would be teaching everything from scratch, so for the last two years of school, she focused mainly on JEE preparation. After she joined IIT Delhi, she learned programming languages such as Python, C++, and more.

According to Sneha, consistency is the key to success. She would study every day and maintain a proper sleep cycle instead of burning the midnight oil. She started studying from the beginning and didn’t keep anything for the last moment. She used to practice the coaching material thoroughly.

Sneha and her classmates at IIT Delhi prepared for JEE Main and Advanced simultaneously. Once all chapters were covered, their coaching mentors prepared a weekly schedule of what chapters were to be revised through tests. For one week, the coaching would give them papers for JEE Main, and for the next, they would give them a test for JEE Advanced.

Sneha did not find any subject particularly difficult since she began preparing early on. While her favorites were Maths and Chemistry, Physics seemed a little difficult but not impossible. Whenever she felt overwhelmed or tired of studying, she would spend time with her family, especially her parents. She would also watch stand-up comedy videos.

Sneha mainly stuck to her coaching materials and NCERT books but referred to HC Verma for the theory part of Physics. She recommends that JEE Main 2023 aspirants start their preparation early, maintain consistency, and focus on revising simultaneously for both JEE Main and Advanced.

In conclusion, Sneha Pareek’s tips and tricks for cracking JEE Main 2023 include starting early, maintaining consistency, practicing thoroughly, revising simultaneously for both JEE Main and Advanced, and taking breaks to recharge. Aspirants can refer to coaching materials, NCERT books, and other helpful resources such as HC Verma’s book for the theory part of Physics.

Shivansh Manoj, a second-year Biotechnological Engineering student at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, shares his experience of life at IIT Delhi. Shivansh had a desire to study at an IIT since sixth grade, and after securing AIR 4,163 in JEE Advanced, he had to choose between Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee and Biotechnological Engineering at IIT Delhi. He chose Biotechnology because he was inclined towards Biology and the field offered numerous opportunities, including Bioinformatics, agricultural microbiology, and electro microbiology.

Shivansh’s typical day starts at 7 am, and breakfast is served between 7:30 am and 9:30 am. His classes usually begin at 8 am and continue till 12 pm or 1 pm, followed by a one-hour break for lunch. After the break, he attends tutorials or lab work, which usually ends by 3 pm or 5 pm. Shivansh’s degree requires him to take four humanities courses, and he has opted for Introduction to Language Science. The selection process for humanities courses is based on various factors, including CGPA, branch, and year of study.

Apart from academics, Shivansh is working on an agricultural microbiology project to make a plant microbiome drought-resistant. He spends 3-4 hours after classes on this project. Shivansh is also a representative for the literary club for his hostel, Udaigiri. IIT Delhi has 11 Board for Recreation and Cultural Activity (BRCA) clubs, and Shivansh recommends joining dramatics club as it helps develop social and public speaking skills.

IIT Delhi has 13 hostels, including two for girls and 11 for boys. There are no restrictions on in-time or out-time, and Shivansh has a double-sharing room. During his free time, Shivansh plays cards with friends, roams around the campus, and watches shows. Everyone is generally free at night, and they go out to the city for movies, bowling, or other activities.

In summary, life at IIT Delhi involves a rigorous academic curriculum, but there are ample opportunities to pursue extracurricular activities and projects. The hostels are comfortable, and there are no restrictions on movement, allowing students to explore the campus and the city.

Private Universities Show Hesitancy in Adopting CUET: for Undergraduate Admissions Due to Uncertainty

CUET UG Entrance Test Sparks Mixed Reactions Among Private Universities Due to Technical Glitches and Delayed Admissions

Private Universities Show Hesitancy in Adopting CUET
Source : Canva Stock Image

Several private universities in India are showing hesitancy in adopting the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) as the primary entrance test for undergraduate admissions due to technical glitches and delayed admission processes in the past. However, some private universities, such as BML Munjal University, GD Goenka University, Lovely Professional University, Galgotias University, and SRM University, have already adopted the CUET for 2023 admissions.

Shuchika Vinayak, the Head of Admissions at BML Munjal University, stated that the university has been accepting CUET scores since the first year of the examination for all undergraduate programmes. She added that a good CUET score not only helps applicants in being eligible for the course of their preference but also grants merit scholarships to deserving students based on their scores.

Aman Mittal, the Vice President of Lovely Professional University (LPU), stated that LPU would be participating in CUET for the first time this year. He added that if there are no glitches in the exam and the government maintains the timelines, LPU would consider switching to CUET. However, as it would be the first year, they will not be changing their admission process entirely. The university conducts its own admission test (LPUNEST) for various courses.

Major General Bhaskar Chakravarty, the Director of Admissions at Amity University, expressed his concern over the uncertainty surrounding admission through CUET. He stated that there is no guarantee of admission through CUET, and when students fail to make the grade through CUET for admission into government universities, they fall back on private universities. Therefore, he believes that students can exercise that option well ahead of the conduct of the CUET. Chakravarty also added that Amity University begins its admissions early in the year to give students the opportunity to go through the selection process, take admission and secure their seats, well before the CUET fever grips them.

Mahindra University also emphasises commencing the admission process early in the year to let students make their decisions in a stress-free environment. Dr Yajulu Medury, the Vice Chancellor of Mahindra University, stated that this approach helps the university get the crème de la crème of students. Mahindra University is in the process of getting empanelled with CUET.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made it mandatory for all central universities to adopt CUET for admissions to all undergraduate programmes from 2023. The UGC Chief, M Jagadesh Kumar, has said that there will be no delay in admissions this year. CUET UG will take place from 21-31 May, and results will be announced in June. The admission process can start in July’s first week, and classes can start no later than August 1. Kumar has assured that suitable infrastructure will be provided for smooth conduct of CUET-UG.

In conclusion, while some private universities have adopted the CUET for undergraduate admissions, others are still hesitant due to past technical glitches and delayed admission processes. Nonetheless, the UGC has made it mandatory for all central universities to adopt CUET for undergraduate admissions, and the test is set to take place in May 2023. Private universities will have to weigh the benefits of adopting CUET against their concerns over past issues and uncertainties surrounding admission through the new entrance test.
