CISCE Examination Types

The CISCE is a non-government board that conducts school level examinations in India. Two main types of exams conducted by the CISCE are:

•  ICSE: The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination is an examination conducted by the CISCE for Class 10. It has been designed to provide a course in general education, as per the recommendations in the New Education Policy (1986) through the medium of English. A candidate may appear for the exam if his institute is affiliated to the CISCE. The CISCE does not allow private candidates to sit for the ICSE exam.
  
  Candidates must study all the subjects in group I, select any 2 subjects from group II and any one subject from group III. To know the marking scheme and the subjects under these groups, click here. In all subjects other than Science and Computers, candidates must submit compulsory coursework assignments. In Science and Computers, 20% of the marks are for the laboratory work.
  
  In subjects where there is more than one paper, the mark in the subject is calculated by taking the average of all papers in the subject. Candidates appearing for the examination have to study seven subjects, with anywhere from 1 to 3 papers in each subject. This makes for a total of 8-12 papers, depending on the subjects.

• 2) ISC: The Indian School Certificate (ISC) is an examination conducted by the CISCE for Class 12. The Examination has been designed to provide an examination in a course of general education, in accordance with the recommendations of the New Education Policy 1986 (India), through the medium of English. Candidates, therefore, have to attempt the subjects of English and Environmental Education, and, must also attempt three, four or five other subjects that may be chosen by them from a wide range of subjects. A candidate may appear for the exam if his institute is affiliated to the CISCE. The CISCE does not allow private candidates to sit for the ISC exam. Indian School Certificate is treated as equivalent to Senior Examination of the University of Scotland. This means that students will no longer be required to obtain ‘A’ level qualifications or complete bridging courses, while seeking entry to Universities in the UK and other overseas Universities in the Commonwealth.
