Engineers Day 2022 India Celebrates The Work Of M Visvesvaraya On September 15

Every year on September 15, India celebrates National Engineer’s day in honor of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya – a great engineer whose achievements have impacted not only India but also Sri Lanka and Tanzania.

Born on September 15, 1861, in the Muddenahalli village of Karnataka, Visvesvaraya completed his school education locally before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) at the University of Madras. However, he eventually decided to switch career paths and obtained a diploma in civil engineering.

The irrigation system was later installed at Gwalior’s Tigra Dam and Mysuru’s Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS) dam. The KRS dam created one of the largest reservoirs in Asia at the time.

Popularly known as Sir MV, he was an engineer who undertook many complex projects and delivered amazing infrastructure results. He patented and installed an irrigation system with water floodgates at the Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune in 1903, which increased food supply levels and storage to the highest levels known as the ‘block system’.Sir M. Visvesvaraya was not only a celebrated engineer but also a leading economic thinker in India. His books “Reconstructing India” and “Planned Economy of India” were published in 1920 and 1934 respectively, and earned him the title of “precursor of economic planning in India” from the Institution of Engineers India (IEI). In 1915 he was awarded a knighthood for his services as Diwan of Mysore, and in 1955 he received the Bharat Ratna.

In 2018, Google Doodle honored Visvesvaraya on his birthday for his works that led to the Tata Steel engineers inventing an armored vehicle used in WWII. The vehicle could withstand bullets due to Visvesvaraya’s genius work. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya passed away in 1962.

Byju's FY 21 With A Loss Of Rs 4,500 Crore, Report Card Has Many Red Marks

Byju’s FY21 income figure of Rs 2,428 cr is equal to the revenue figure of Rs 2,434 cr in the prior year, though the difference is that the bottom line in 2019-20 showed a profit of Rs 51 cr.

Byju’s, the education technology business that is India’s most-valued start-up, today said it had earned Rs 2,428 crore in revenue in the financial year 2020-21 (FY21) translating into a loss of Rs 4,500 crore.

This is comparable to the revenue figure of Rs 2,434 crore in the previous year, though the difference is that the bottom line in 2019-20 showed a profit of Rs 51 crore.

The FY21 numbers have received an unqualified report from the company’s auditor, Deloitte Haskins & Sells. In an interview with Business Standard, the company’s founder and CEO, Byju Raveendran, said there was significant business growth in FY 21. But, since this was the first year when new revenue recognition started because of Covid-related business model changes, almost 40 percent of the revenue was deferred even as expenses were not.

“A good part of the FY21 revenue got deferred on account of revenue recognition changes, across the period of consumption as well as collection. Around 40 percent of the revenue got deferred. Otherwise, the growth would have been 60 to 65 percent. For the revenue that got pushed, the expenses are already accounted for in FY21, so the loss has increased,” said Raveendran.

Byju’s also bore the impact of high-voltage acquisitions that have yet to start showing up as assets on the balance sheet. “This was the year when acquisitions increased — fast-growing but loss-making acquisitions that are increasing the loss at the consolidated level,” Raveendran said.
Byju’s FY21 results have been the subject of intense scrutiny and speculation, coming as they are some 18 months after the period of coverage ended in March 2021.

“There has been an 18-month delay and everyone was anxious. The last six months have been the toughest for me and everyone else involved. Now the good news is that that’s over,” said Raveendran.

Raising hopes for the subsequent year, 2021-22, the company disclosed unaudited results that show nearly Rs 10,000 crore in gross revenues. Its K-12 education business is showing accelerated growth. The firm said between April – July 2022 alone, the company logged a revenue of Rs 4,530 crore.

Byju’s is on an acquisition spree in India and globally as the pandemic has accelerated the adoption of online education. Some of these deals included the $1-billion buy of New Delhi-based Aakash Educational Services and the $600-million acquisition of Singapore-headquartered Great Learning — a leading global player in professional and higher education — last year.

On Sunday, 18-year-old Mahit Gadhiwala from Surat ranked 9th in the JEE (Advanced) Common Merit List. The son of a dentist couple, Gadhiwala has always wanted to pursue a BTech degree. Gadhiwala scored 285 out of 360 on the IIT entrance test.

Mahit Gadhiwala from Surat recently gave an interview to IndiaToday Education, in which he talked about his preparation journey for the JEE Advanced exam, what strategies he used, and how he was able to score so well.”I am very satisfied with my overall result in JEE Advanced. It seems that all the 3 years of hard work have given me an unexpected and fruitful outcome,” Gadhiwala said.

“For the past three years, I have been studying JEE Advanced with the help of my parents and Allen Surat. I covered theory, answered plenty of questions, and gave many test series”, says Mahit.I used to wake up at 7 in the morning and do exercise for an hour to stay physically and mentally fit. In the morning, I usually had my classes and after that I used to do self-study. For relaxation, I used to watch a movie or TV series for 40-45 minutes every day.

When asked about any hardships he faced during his entire 3-year journey, he replied that there were always ups and downs, but the major challenge was keeping discipline throughout the whole process.”I wasn’t on social media much when I was preparing for the exam. I used Whatsapp to clear up any doubts I had, and besides that, I just watched YouTube videos for fun. The rest of the time, my schedule was so tight that I didn’t really have time for anything else,” said Gadhiwala.

A UNIQUE SUCCESS MANTRA
In spite of the challenging paper, he maintained his morale, thanks to the “main jhukega Nahi…” attitude he picked up from the blockbuster movie Pushpa.
FUTURE GOALS
Mahit is confident enough for his future studies now after securing AIR 9 and wants to fulfill his dream of studying computer science engineering at IIT Bombay.

Delhi University Admissions 2022: BCom, BA Political Science, English (Hons) Most Highly Chosen Courses.

The popularity of DU is largely a result of its location, which offers better infrastructure and research facilities than other central and state universities.

Delhi University (DU) consistently grabs attention for its extremely high cut-offs during the admissions season. Nonetheless, it is still one of the most popular options for recent high school graduates. B.Com (Hons), B.A. (Hons) Political Science, and B.A. (Hons) English are some of the undergraduate programs that Delhi University has seen the most demand for over the years based on their high cut-offs and large enrolments.

The prominence of DU stems from the fact that some of the humanities, commerce, and science courses offered by DU are among the most sought-after in the country, and other central universities do not offer the same selection. The B.Com (Hons) program saw the most admissions in 2021, with 8755 admissions across 54 colleges. Following that were B.Com (7672), B.A. (Hons), Political Science (4279), B.A. (Hons) English (3015), and B.A. (Hons) History (2975). There were respectively 43, 45, 46, and 43 colleges that offered these courses.

Given the high demand for the B.Com (Hons) program, cut-offs are high in DU. This year around 15 colleges set 99 percent as the course’s first cut-off. The course’s cut-off score was 100 percent, set by the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC).

The popularity of DU is largely a result of its location, which offers better infrastructure and research facilities than other central and state universities. Due to the dearth of research and infrastructure resources at their state and central universities, students are migrating in massive numbers to DU.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Has Asked The Universities To Provide A List Of Students Who Wish To Visit The Border Areas

On Thursday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena wrote to 10 different universities in the city asking for an action plan to be submitted that would send students to visit border areas as a part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebration. This idea came about following a meeting of the National Committee for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations that were headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Saxena wants students from the national capital to have an exposure visit to different parts of the country so they can see the areas bordering India.

During a meeting headed by the Prime Minister, it was suggested that university students should visit border areas as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The Lieutenant Governor then decided that all universities should sponsor at least 75 students for an exposure trip to border areas in collaboration with the defense forces and central police organizations.

The visits are designed to raise awareness among students about the great work being done by our defense forces and central police organizations, even in difficult terrain and inclement weather. These visits will help students to understand and appreciate the importance of our independence and sovereignty.

The Lieutenant Governor Secretariat has asked the vice-chancellors of 10 universities to submit an action plan by September 15. The 10 universities are Delhi Technological University, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Research University, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, Netaji Subhas University of Technology, Indraprastha Institute of Information and Technology, Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Dr. B R Ambedkar University, Delhi Sports University and Delhi Teachers University.

IIT Bombay Director - The Dip In Qualifying Cut - Marks For JEE Advance 2022 Will Not Impact Admissions.

IIT Bombay director the dip in qualifying cut off marks for JEE Advanced 2022 will not impact admissions.

Despite seeing a slight dip in cut-off marks in the JEE Advanced results this year, IIT Bombay director Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri has said that this is “statistically insignificant” and will not impact admissions.

As the organizing institute for JEE Advanced this year, IIT Bombay is responsible for managing the counseling process and allocating places to successful candidates. According to the toppers, IIT-Bombay is the most sought-after tech college, followed by IIT-Delhi and IIT-Kanpur. Interestingly, in the national ranking of higher education institutions (read: NIRF) released by the Education Ministry every year, the order is a bit different. Among the IITs, IIT-Madras is ranked the best followed by IIT-Delhi and IIT-Bombay

The data analysis shows that there has been a power shift in the last five years between IIT-Kharagpur (the oldest IIT) and IIT-Madras. Kharagpur was the fourth most preferred IIT from 2016 to 2018 but was overtaken by IIT-Madras from 2019 onwards. In 2019, 107 students among the top 1000 chose IIT-Madras while 100 opted for IIT-Kharagpur. The gap between the two widened a little more with 70 of the top 1,000 position holders taking admission in Kharagpur and 83 going to Madras.

Since 2016, IIT-Hyderabad and IIT-Indore have both been increasing their foothold among the best candidates. While IIT-Hyderabad almost doubled its share among the top 1000 students from 19 in 2016 to 34 in 2020, IIT-Indore went from admitting just three from the top 1000 rankers in 2016 to take in 14 in 2020.

IIT-Hyderabad was established in 2008 and IIT-Indore in 2009. Both of these IITs were part of the second-generation IITs set up by the UPA government in 2008.
